SOUTH AFRICAN STATE PRESIDENT IN HOSPITAL.

Pretoria – Jacob Zuma South African President has been admitted in hospital on Saturday evening to undergo

a scheduled procedure to remove gallstones. The statement released from the Presidency did not reveal the identity of the hospital, obviously for security reasons.

Gallstones are known as "stones" that form in the gallbladder or bile ducts. The common types of gallstones are cholesterol, black pigment, and brown pigment. Cholesterol gallstones occur more frequently in several ethnic groups and are associated with female gender, obesity, pregnancy, oral hormonal therapy, and rapid loss of weight, elevated blood triglyceride levels, and Crohn's disease. We don't know what type of gallstones will be removed.

The report state that the gallstones were discovered about two months ago during a routine medical check-up.  The President's work programme did not allow for the procedure to be undertaken earlier. The current period of recess in Parliament and Cabinet has provided this opportunity.

It is expected that the President will be discharged today and the South African Presidency wishes Jacob Zuma all of the best and a speedy recovery during this medical operation.
