Go back to work Sapo, says the Committee

The Portfolio Committee on Telecommunications and Postal Services calls on the South African Post Office (Sapo) workers to return to work immediately, following a voluntary resignation by all board members on 7 November 2014.

The resignations came in the wake of the meeting between the Committee, Sapo board members and executive management as well as the Minister of the Department of Telecommunication and Postal Services, Mr Siyabonga Cwele, on 31 October 2014 to understand the current state of affairs at the entity.

The Committee reiterated in the meeting that labour unions must work with Sapo management to find a lasting solution and thereby encourage workers to return to work immediately.

The Committee is of the firm view that resignations by board members herald a new dawn of hope for Sapo. In the meantime, a new task team has been established to act on the position of the board to turn around the situation and stabilise the entity.

Similarly, the Committee appreciates the work done by the outgoing board members and thereby wishes them well in their future endeavours.

In the meeting that took place on 31 October 2014, the Committee resolved to conduct oversight visit to Sapo on 24 November 2014 to assess the progress made in resolving some of the challenges facing the entity.
